PKLI providing free treatment via urology camp at Skardu
Highly dedicated team of Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Center is serving the people of Gilgit-Baltistan diligently in a urology camp. This specialized camp is organized for a week in Skardu city by PKLI in collaboration with local organizations, Baltistan Doctors Forum and Marafie Foundation to provide free OPD and surgical facilities.
The camp started off on July 16, 2018, and until now 450 patients have received OPD se
rvices and more than 50 patients have undergone major endourology surgical procedures. Each of these procedures normally costs thousands of rupees on average. All patients are receiving free of cost treatment, including medicines and surgical supplies, at this camp.
Due to lack of such health facilities in Gilgit-Baltistan, the patients from this area
are compelled to travel down to other cities of the country for the medical care and the only safe and advisable way to travel is by air, which is unaffordable for the most of those patients. To provid
e quality facilities with a standard care to the poor people of Gilgit-Baltistan at their doorstep, PKLI mobilized all required resources, including medical supplies and manpower, from Lahore. This camp denotes PKLI’s efforts to reach out to the deprived populations of the country to extend tertiary care services.
